Embracing Change and Celebrating Transitions at Pittman Park

As summer winds down, the season brings about many transitions and changes. Teachers return to school on Tuesday, students follow on August 1, and our college campuses buzz back to life, especially here in Statesboro with the advent of a new fall semester.

Pittman Park is also gearing up for significant transitions in the coming weeks.

Farewell to Our Youth Director, Bekah Hoogerwerf

Our beloved Youth Director, Bekah Hoogerwerf, will be leaving us to embark on a new full-time job in Savannah. While we are thrilled for Bekah and this new opportunity, we will deeply miss her leadership and the positive impact she has had on our youth. Bekah has been a trusted leader, guide, and friend throughout her time at Pittman Park. We will celebrate Bekah this Sunday, July 21, during the 11 am service. Additionally, our youth will enjoy an end-of-summer party with Bekah in Savannah on July 28. To ensure a smooth transition, Stephanie Smith, our Family Ministry Pastor, will step into the role of Youth Ministry Leader.

Farewell to Elizabeth McCooey

This Sunday will also be Elizabeth McCooey’s last Sunday with our choir. Elizabeth has blessed us over the past few years with her voice and leadership during our Traditional worship. Elizabeth will be leaving Statesboro to attend the University of Georgia Veterinary Program in the fall. We wish Elizabeth well as she continues her educational journey!

Transition for Diego Escobar

Our Accompanist, Diego Escobar, will be transitioning from his role as weekly piano leader but will remain an integral part of our congregation. Diego and Paola have been tremendous blessings, offering support and encouragement to our choir and church community. We will celebrate Diego’s contributions on July 28 at the 11am service. On August 4, Catherine Shatto McCooey will return as our accompanist, leading us with her talent on the piano.

Friends, this is a time to celebrate the beautiful things God is doing in our church and to honor those who have faithfully led us. Join us on July 21 to celebrate Bekah Hoogerwerf and Elizabeth McCooey, and on July 28 to celebrate Diego Escobar. I look forward to the exciting times ahead as we follow God’s leading this fall.

God bless,

Jonathan Smith
