Matthew 1:18-25
From the beginning of this season, Isaiah has given us a vision of the world God is building and the hope God is bringing. Today, that promise comes into focus with a name: Immanuel — God with us.
In Matthew’s Gospel, the angel tells Joseph that the child to be born will be called Immanuel. Not God far off. Not God waiting at the end of history. But God with us — in uncertainty, in fear, in obedience, and in love.
As we draw near to Christmas, may you know this truth above all else:
Best of all, God is with us.
