John's name means, "The Lord is Gracious"
-The name tells the story of God remembering the covenant that God made with all creation.
-John's birth is a reminder that our God is a God of grace and mercy.
The people of Israel had been waiting for 400 years since Malachi prophesied John's coming.
-The people were living in silence and fear of abandonment.
You are not abandoned.
-The same God who heard the prayers of Zechariah is coming for you.
-The Lord is Gracious.
When Zechariah gets his voice back, he erupts into song and prophesy.
-Mercy is the active compassion of God toward God's people.
-Horn of salvation is God's strength for protection and rescue of God's people.
Have we been rescued?
Are we living like we've been rescued?
How might our community be different if we did?
